Weems Memorial Hospital is looking at the possibility of opening a pharmacy in Carrabelle.
Alliance CEO Jim Coleman told Franklin County Commissioners last week that they are looking at the possibility of adding a pharmacy at the Carrabelle Clinic.
There has not been a pharmacy in Carrabelle in about 8 years which means people on the eastern end of the county have to travel to either Apalachicola or Crawfordville.
Coleman called it a “pharmacy desert.”
He said their initial investigation looks like they could make the idea work.
He said it would likely be a 200 thousand dollar initial investment which could be paid back in about 3 and a quarter years.
Coleman plans to hold a special session with the Weems Board of directors in January to discuss the idea further and then come to county commission with a recommendation after that.
