The American Red Cross is putting out a call for blood donors.
The Red Cross is experiencing the worst blood shortage in over a decade.
The dangerously low blood supply levels have forced some hospitals to defer patients from major surgery, including organ transplants.
All blood types are needed, but especially O negative, which can be used to treat any patient.
Donations will help replenish the blood supply to ensure that blood products are readily available for patients with serious medical needs.
To be eligible to donate blood you need to be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in generally good health.
There will be a blood drive in Franklin County today for people who can give.
It is being held at the Apalachicola Margaret Key Library from 1 till 7.
There will also be a blood drive sponsored by the Forgotten Coast Parrot Head Club on Friday, February 4th from 10 till 3 at the lighthouse on St. George Island.
