A number of school bus stops in Eastpoint and Carrabelle will soon be better lit to increase safety at busy school bus-stop areas in District 5

A number of school bus stops in Eastpoint and Carrabelle will soon be better lit to increase safety at busy school bus-stop areas in District 5.

The LED lights will be added to the intersections of CC Land and Brian Street, Buck Street and Ridge Road, Beacon Street and Lighthouse Road, and Frank McKamey Way and Lighthouse Road.

Some of the lights were damaged during the wildfire in 2018, other areas have never been lit.

District 5 commissioner Jessica Ward said the locations for the new lights were chosen with the help of the school district.

The costs for the installation will range from about 1400 dollars to 2800 dollars depending on whether there is an existing power pole.
There will be an estimated recurring electric charge of about 6.50 per month, per LED light.

Commissioner Ward said she would like to see additional area lit, but the county doesn’t have the funding at this time.
