Franklin County commissioners are moving forward on a project to upgrade the boat ramp at the St. George Island fishing pier.
The commission this month opened qualifications for civil engineering services relating to the design and permitting of a wave attenuation device and a boat loading dock on the seawall outside of the existing boat ramp.
The improvements will protect the existing boat launch basin and provide a place to tie up vessels while the vehicles and trailers are parked or retrieved.
The selected individual or firm will have 360 days to complete the design and permitting.
Only one company provided qualifications for the work, that was Dewberry Engineers out of Port St. Joe.
Their qualifications will be considered by county staff for a final decision at the next Franklin County Commission meeting.
The project is being funded through an $80,000 design grant from the Florida boating improvement program.
