Franklin County commissioners have awarded a bid to construct a new scale house at the county landfill.
The existing building is nearly 30 years old and has mold.
A recent assessment of the building found inadequate insulation and an oversized cooling system has fostered excess moisture in the air inside the building and cracks in the stucco finish which has allowed water intrusion over the years.
A new scale house was already part of the landfill's capital improvement plan, though they expected to get a few more years out of it.
But since they have now detected mold, the replacement will have to happen as soon as possible.
Only one bid was received from Quick Buildings, LLC of Mobile, Alabama in the amount of $81,784.
The bid was accepted to construct and install a 12’ wide by 22’0” long modular scale station building that meets modern wind load, efficiency and accessibility requirements.
