Franklin County commissioners will hold a housing summit next Tuesday where they will begin to address the need for more affordable housing in the county.
Workforce housing has long been a problem in Franklin County as there is not a lot of property for new construction, so land prices can be very high, especially for working people like for our teachers, law enforcement, and restaurant workers.
There are similar issues in many areas around the country, especially those with a tourist driven economy.
Tuesday’s meeting will be facilitated by the Florida Housing Coalition and will focus on escalating housing costs for both rental and homeownership.
The coalition will present their findings on the housing needs of Franklin County and offer some solutions for providing more affordable housing in the community.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to ask questions and learn about various programs that help reduce housing cost burdens.
The meeting will be held on Tuesday, July the 19th at 5 PM at the Courthouse Annex n Apalachicola.
You can attend in person or by ZOOM.
Information for attending the meeting using ZOOM can be found on-line at www.franklincountyfloirda.com.
