The Franklin County Commission has agreed to help the City of Apalachicola with repairs to Leslie Street

The Franklin County Commission has agreed to help the City of Apalachicola with repairs to Leslie Street.

Leslie Street in adjacent to the Franklin County Courthouse and has been closed to traffic since Hurricane Sally hit the area in September, 2020.

The city has attempted to find money to repair the road, but has so far been unsuccessful.

The road is blocked with concrete barriers which is not just an eyesore, but also affects access to some businesses and to the courthouse parking lot.

On Tuesday, Franklin County Commissioners agreed to spend a little over 16 thousand dollars to help the city pay for surveying, design, permitting, and contract administration for Leslie Street repairs.

The money is coming from a 250-thousand-dollar reimbursement the county recently received from Apalachicola for another road project.

Once the design phase is complete, and the full costs of the repairs are known, the rest of the money will likely go toward repairing and reopening the road.
