Highlights Celebrate National Native American Heritage Month November is National Native American Heritage Month. Learn more about our colleagues and how they contribute to NOAA Fisheries' mission. Deadline Approaching: Funding Opportunity to Enhance Climate Science NOAA's Climate and Fisheries Adaptation Program is soliciting proposals to better understand and support the resilience and adaptation of fisheries and fishing communities to rapidly changing climate and ocean conditions. Since 2015, the program has funded 26 collaborative research projects involving colleges and universities, environmental organizations, NOAA labs and science centers, and other entities. Proposals are due November 21. NOAA Announces Membership for the American Fisheries Advisory Committee NOAA Fisheries announced the selection of members for the new American Fisheries Advisory Committee. The committee was established by the American Fisheries Advisory Committee Act in May 2022 to make recommendations for Saltonstall-Kennedy priorities and grant award funding. West Coast Road Removal Project Reconnects Wetlands and Benefits Salmon A recently completed habitat restoration project in Washington State opens up a wetland for migratory fish, including threatened Puget Sound Chinook salmon. NOAA Veterans Corps: Progress by the Numbers NOAA’s Veterans Corps partnerships are building on 10 years of growth, supporting habitat and fisheries restoration projects on the west coast. Partnership to Improve Conservation of Nearshore Habitat NOAA Fisheries is joining the Pew Charitable Trusts, the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation, and other partners. They will identify and share the latest and most effective tools, science, and practices for recognizing and objectively assessing the ecological value of submerged aquatic vegetation in nearshore habitats.

New England/Mid-Atlantic Seeking Comments for Northeast Canyons and Seamounts Marine National Monument On November 9, NOAA Fisheries published a notice seeking comments on drafting an amendment to the Greater Atlantic Region’s fishery management plans. This amendment would incorporate the Northeast Canyons and Seamounts Marine National Monument’s area and commercial fishing prohibition into fishery management plans and ultimately, into fishery regulations. NOAA Fisheries is asking for feedback on this action through November 30.
