Supporting veterans is a societal responsibility that goes beyond just recognizing service—it requires action. And for our agency, supporting veterans is imperative. Six Places NOAA Is Using Uncrewed Systems to Support Its Fisheries Missions

The Uncrewed Systems Operations Center is facilitating NOAA Fisheries’ use of uncrewed systems, in addition to crewed surveys, to provide safer and more efficient ways to collect data. Uncrewed systems allow us to access areas that are inaccessible by crewed ships and aircraft. As a result, we are better able to steward ocean resources, marine life, and their habitats. Persistent Pollutants from Mother’s Milk Turn Dolphin Calves More Toxic Than Mom

New research shows that bottlenose dolphins transfer toxic pollutants to their calves through milk. Some research suggests that these persistent pollutants may interfere with the pregnancy success and calf survival of killer whales, the largest species in the dolphin family.

New Funding and Coordinated Action to Help Bring California Salmon Back from the Brink

The Office of Habitat Conservation’s Restoration Center has awarded $27.8 million to its partners to bring Central California Coast coho salmon back to California rivers. These projects will allow the endangered salmon to reach their historic spawning grounds and increase their chances of survival.

Klamath River Salmon, the Yurok Tribe, and the Dams Coming Down: A Conversation with Miss Indian World 2023–2024

We sat down with Miss Indian World 2023-20 24 Tori McConnell, a member of the Yurok Tribe, to discuss tribal culture during Native American Heritage Month. Her Tribe suffered when dams on the Klamath River prevented salmon migration; we are working with the Tribe and other partners to remove the dams and restore salmon to the river.

Assessing Vulnerability of Fish and Invertebrates to Climate Change in the Southeast

NOAA Fisheries recently published two new assessments of climate vulnerability for fish and invertebrates in the Gulf of Mexico and South Atlantic Large Marine Ecosystems. These assessments showed that some species may be more susceptible to climate-driven changes than others.
