The Franklin County commission is asking for money from the local Tourist Development Council to renovate the old St. George Island Restrooms

The Franklin County commission is asking for money from the local Tourist Development Council to renovate the old St. George Island Restrooms and the concrete surfacing, roofing and ADA picnic tables for a new picnic pavilion at lighthouse park.

The county recently completed work on a new restroom facility at lighthouse park, but because of the ever-growing number of people who visit our area, they think it would be a good idea to have both restroom facilities available to the public.

The county is seeking money to renovate the old restrooms replacing or repairing the floor tiles and wall coverings which have been damaged from water damage.

They would also need to repair the copper plumbing, and install new fixtures, and run lines for additional outdoor showers.

They also need money for an ADA Accessible Picnic Pavilion which would include a concrete surface for the picnic pavilion and the repair of damaged and uneven sidewalk surfaces, plus a metal roof for the pavilion and new ADA accessible picnic tables.

The total cost for the work would be about 70 thousand dollars.

If the work is funded, it will likely be done by local contractors.

The request has been forwarded to the Franklin County Tourist Development Council for their consideration.
