March 29, 3-6PM ET   Join Apalachicola Riverkeeper at our annual member meeting and dinner at the Apalachicola Center for History, Culture and Art in downtown Apalachicola.    Dinner tickets are on sale HERE.   Storytelling time - Award-winning historian Dale Cox will speak on Prospect Bluff and British activities on the Apalachicola River during the War of 1812. Many historians believe Prospect Bluff and its environs was the largest pre-Civil War free black colony in North America, thus the reason it was recently listed as part of the National Park Service's Underground Network to Freedom. Dale is the author of the critically acclaimed book, The Fort at Prospect Bluff, and is known for his research into the distant past of the entire basin. Dale will also be signing books for anyone that wants to take home some Apalachicola history.   Dancing time - The VonWamps are a musical venture that crosses genres and generations. Lou Wamp, Lynn Wamp, and Daniel Foster perform an eclectic and high-spirited mix of their original compositions as well as a constantly evolving setlist from folk, swing, and jazz to country, rock, and bluegrass   Dinnertime - The membership meeting will be followed by a traditional Low-County Boil dinner, prepared by Loco Catering as well as vegan paella.   Not a member yet or need to renew? Waterkeepers Florida working better together!   Waterkeepers from all over the state gathered in Gainesville this week for a strategic meeting to identify our collective priorities in order to amplify our voice when it comes to restoring and protecting fishable, swimmable and drinkable water.  For 2025 (and beyond!) you will see Apalachicola Riverkeeper working within Waterkeepers Florida to build our relationship with elected officials, expand collaborations, collectively enforce the accountability of agencies, all while amplifying our collective voice to effectively advocate for Florida's watersheds. READ MORE HERE.

Cypress Tree Planting with Conservation Pathways Apalachicola Riverkeeper worked with Conservation Pathways on our slough restoration projects on the Apalachicola and Chipola Rivers. We talked about all the impacts of river dredging on the floodplain ecosystem and what Riverkeeper is doing to restore these slough systems that feed the swamps. As part of the restoration process, we planted over 50 cypress trees (and three red maples)! READ MORE HERE.

RiverTrek 2025 Applications Seeking RiverTrek Team 2025 Apalachicola Riverkeeper’s RiverTrek fundraiser-awareness campaign supports the advocacy, education and outreach work of Apalachicola Riverkeeper–100% of funds raised by the volunteer team members support our work. The RiverTrek team will travel the 107-mile length of the Apalachicola River in late October. Each night the paddlers camp along the river’s bank. They meet with historians, ecologists and other experts along the way.
