107 Miles to Go! Meet the RiverTrek Team   Our RiverTrek campaign is underway! A team of intrepid volunteers will kayak the entirety of the Apalachicola River in October to support the vital work of Apalachicola Riverkeeper and bring awareness to the challenges facing Florida's Apalachicola River.  Each night the paddlers camp along the river’s bank. They meet with historians, ecologists and other experts along the way. You can also "join the team" by donating to the RiverTrek campaign today! Oil Drilling Ban Bill Signed into Law by Governor   Thank you for speaking up for the Apalachicola River and Bay! Your letters and calls and support of the “Kill the Drill” bill were heard by Governor DeSantis. The oil drilling ban in the Apalachicola River basin became law July 1. This marks a huge milestone in the fight to protect the Apalachicola River and Bay from oil and gas drilling. Kill the Drill Bill Signed East River Restoration Continues   East River carries water from the Apalachicola River through the delta to East Bay at the head of Apalachicola Bay.  The public is advised to use caution when operating vessels in the areas of East River and Bloody Bluff Landing. Slow moving tugs and barges will be active here throughout the summer. The current sediment removal is a component of Apalachicola Riverkeeper's slough restoration project.  As a result of the decades of dredging by the USACE, the riverbed and banks became destabilized and the hydrological connections that connected the river to the floodplain were severely altered. This caused changes to the vegetation and fish and wildlife habitat and reduced the nutrients provided to the Bay from the backwater swamps. East River Restoration

Meet Us in Chattahoochee August 2   Come on out for iced coffee and muffins at Riverfront Park at 9 AM on August 2. We'll spend a "power hour" protecting our water and soil by picking up around the boat landing and park. We'll have the needed supplies. You can also meet us every Second Saturday at the mill pond in Apalachicola for a clean up. You'll be fascinated by some of our finds. You'll also meet some terrific water hero volunteers!
