Sales of Florida’s Sea Turtle License Plate will provide money to a number of state parks to help in their sea turtle care and management programs

Sales of Florida’s Sea Turtle License Plate will provide money to a number of state parks to help in their sea turtle care and management programs.

The Florida State Parks Foundation recently received 33 thousand dollars through the sale of the specialty license plates that will purchase two all-terrain vehicles to assist with nest monitoring and stewardship at Sebastian Inlet State Park.

The money will also buy Ten Archer 4 GPS tracking units for use at 10 state parks, including the Bald Point State Park and the St. George Island State Park.

The Archer 4 GPS tracking unit is a handheld device that allows park staff to quickly and accurately record large volumes of nesting activity data.

This data is then logged into an extensive database that shows emerging trends and helps inform management practices.

Forty of Florida’s coastal state parks are home to a combined 12,000 sea turtle nesting sites.

Since 2020, the Sea Turtle License Plate Grants Program has contributed more than $100,000 for vehicles, monitoring units, turtle-friendly lighting and educational materials in state parks.
