April Showers and Sunshine April has arrived, bringing those classic coastal days where sunshine, sea breezes, and the occasional passing showers remind us we’re right where we belong. Early risers may spot anglers casting along the shoreline, while afternoons welcome families and friends soaking up the warmth and gentle Gulf waters. As our beaches remain the heart of it all, we kindly ask everyone to help keep them beautiful. Please gather all personal items at the end of your visit, use the provided receptacles for trash, and fill in any holes left in the sand. These simple efforts go a long way in preserving the shoreline for everyone to enjoy.

The Annual Mexico Beach Photography Contest opens for submissions on April 1 and runs through July 31, 2026. Photographs can be from past visits taken within the city limits of Mexico Beach. A FRIENDLY REMINDER: Mexico Beach is a Leave No Trace community, and we appreciate your assistance in helping us keep our beaches clean. Any items left on the beach unattended from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. will be removed and disposed of by the City of Mexico Beach. Items include, but are not limited to, tents and tent frames, beach chairs, coolers, umbrellas, toys, etc. Also, please fill in any holes before you leave and please remain off the sand dunes and out of the sea oats to ensure their continued nourishment. There are boardwalks and walking paths that can be accessed to reach the beach. Your assistance with these requests will keep our beaches beautiful and pristine. LOBSTER DIP We publish it with the compliments of the Mexico Beach Artificial Reef Association cookbook (MBARA.org). INGREDIENTS 1 (7 oz.) can lobster meat, drained and flaked 1 Tbsp minced onion 1 Tbsp lemon juice 8 oz. cream cheese, softened 4 Tbsp butter, softened 1 Tbsp prepared horseradish DIRECTIONS In a medium bowl, mix lobster meat, onion, lemon juice, cream cheese, butter, and horseradish. Continue mixing until smooth. Cover and chill in the refrigerator for a few hours. Serve with your favorite cracker or toasted baguette and enjoy!

IF THE CAT COULD TALK Last month, we discussed inner dog thoughts. And our cat readers asked what their cat might say. So, here are some funny, possibly true, cat thoughts: Dear humans, I don’t dance, and I don’t do tricks; respectfully, your cat. I’m not fat, I’m just fluffy. Sorry I’m late, I had to stop and judge everyone. My humans think they adopted me; how cute. I’m not lazy; I’m energy-efficient. “Meow” means “woof” in Cat. Purring is not communication; it’s therapy. Home is where the cat hair sticks to everything but the cat. I’m not spoiled, I’m just well-loved. Cats make everything better, even bad days.

CATS HAVE NINE LIVES We’ve often heard the saying about a cat having nine lives, often used to refer to someone who’s made it through a few close calls. The phrase is believed to have its origins in ancient times, including ancient Egypt, where cats were revered as sacred creatures associated with protection and power. This contributed to the idea that cats possessed something almost mystical, leading to the belief that they had multiple lives. Their remarkable agility, twisting mid-air and often landing on their feet, only added to the legend. *Fact: Cats don’t have nine lives, just one.
