| Fall Fishing Season Heating Up!
Plan your fishing trip to Franklin County this fall and take your pick from a wide variety of fishing hotspots: from the Apalachicola River basin and the estuary system to wetlands, barrier islands and oyster bars to sand flats and seagrass flats to bountiful artificial reefs in the Gulf of Mexico. Fall is a great time to enjoy inshore fishing for Redfish and other perennial favorites such as Speckled Trout, Tripletail & Flounder. Take your pick from a wide variety of inshore fishing hotspots: from the Apalachicola River basin and the estuary system to barrier island bay shallows and oyster bars to sand flats and seagrass flats. Need a guide? Click here for a list of experts. Offshore, there are more than 80 artificial reef sites located off the Franklin County coastline stretching from Alligator Point to Apalachicola. And the list is growing! The Apalachicola Artificial Reef Association and Tallahassee's Organization for Artificial Reefs were each recently awarded $60,000 grants from FWC for new reef deployments scheduled for summer 2027. The two organizations are combining the funds into one deployment in the new Franklin 30 Mile Reef location near the S-Tower and Exxon Template sites. The deployment will consist of at least Ten 15' tall concrete super reefs each weighing 16tons. One of the structures will be dedicated as a memorial to the late Gregg Stanton. Long involved with the Florida State University dive and marine biology communities, Gregg was also instrumental in the exploration and mapping of several underwater cave systems around North Florida. The proposed location for the Gregg Stanton Memorial is N29 16 .978 W84 35 .674 with deployment tentatively scheduled for July 2027.

| Twilight and Full Moon Climbs in September
The Crooked River Lighthouse will host an Evening at the Tower on Saturday, September 5 and again on September 25 from 7-9 pm. This relaxing evening event offers after-hours museum visits, gift shop browsing, twilight tower climbs, and the peaceful natural surroundings of St. George Sound and Carrabelle Beach as evening falls. Guests will enjoy live music at the Sept. 5 event from Harold Boothe from 7:00-8:30 pm. Admission is free. Evening climbs are $6 for the public, free for current members and free for kids 12 and under with a ticketed adult. The Cape St. George historic lighthouse on St. George Island will host a Full Moon Climb on Saturday, September 26 from 7:30 - 9:30 pm. The September full moon will be the “Harvest Moon”. Technically, the Harvest Moon is the Full Moon closest to the September (Autumn) equinox around September 22. The Harvest Moon is the only Full Moon name determined by the equinox rather than a month.

| September Farmers' Markets
The Apalachicola Farmers' Market will host its September events on Saturday September 12 and 26 from 9 am to 1 pm at 133 Avenue E Apalachicola. The Crooked River Lighthouse is hosting their Country Farmer's Markets on Saturday September 5 and 19 from 9 am-1 pm at the foot of the lighthouse at 1975 Hwy 98 W, Carrabelle Beach. Both area markets feature vendors from the community with locally made goods, veggies, plants, art, and baked goods.

| Whatever Floats Your Boat Regatta Oct. 10
The Chris Koenig Memorial “Whatever Floats Your Boat” Regatta will return to FSUCML on Saturday, October 10. This event celebrates community creativity, environmental stewardship, and marine conservation. Participants will craft boats from repurposed materials and race them in a spirited competition that emphasizes recycling and ocean health. The regatta attracts families, students, researchers, and local businesses, fostering community engagement and awareness about marine ecosystems. Details.

| SGI Pink Out Charity Event October 9
The annual Pink Out will be held Friday, October 9 at Paddy’s Raw Bar on St. George Island. This event benefits the Franklin Needs group which provides free mammograms and other services to local residents. Get ready for a fun filled night including an entertaining “woman-less pageant”, raffles, cool merchandise, live music, food, lots of yummy goodies and much, much more! This local breast cancer awareness event has grown to be a popular annual fall event on St. George Island. The annual Pink Out! festivities begin at 6 pm at Paddy’s Raw Bar and will feature a silent auction, live music, food and fun! 100% of all proceeds from the PINK OUT! go to Franklin Needs Inc., which helps provide free mammograms, testing up to diagnosis, and aid in treatment transportation for Franklin County residents. | Apalach Porch Fest October 10
The 2026 Apalach Porch Fest will be held from 11 am till 6 pm on Saturday, October 10 in Apalachicola. Each year the porches and artists evolve and the volunteer-run festival features live music on front porches that become stages, yards become venues, and good will rules the day. Porch Fest Apalach, a free event, is held annually in October in Downtown Apalachicola. The event begins and ends bat Battery Park in Apalachicola and will feature 3 stages, 18 porches, and 35 acts playing a wide variety of music around town from 11 am to 6 pm. Details.

| Museum Day in Carrabelle Sept. 19
Carrabelle’s three museums will open their doors free of charge on Saturday, September 19 as part of the annual Museum Day celebration. In honor of this day, Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum, Carrabelle History Museum, and Crooked River Lighthouse Museum invite you to Carrabelle FL for special activities and exhibits. Each year, Museum Day goes beyond getting visitors through museum doors; it shines a spotlight on incredible culture, sciences, and history exhibits. Camp Gordon Johnston Museum will be open from 11 am – 5 pm. Carrabelle History Museum will be open from 10 am – 5 pm. Crooked River Lighthouse will be open from 9 am – 5 pm. | Carrabelle's Role in American History Exhibit Through September 30
The Carrabelle History Museum continues its featured exhibit, “Foundations of Freedom – Carrabelle’s Role in America’s Story: through September 30. This unique exhibit, in honor of America’s 250th birthday, tells the story of Carrabelle’s history, independence, democratic participation, and civic identity through artifacts, photographs, and stories. Visitors can explore this exhibit on Wednesdays from 12 to 5 pm ET, Thursdays through Saturdays from 10 am to 5 pm ET, and Sundays from 12 to 5 pm ET. Special Exhibit at Camp Gordon Johnston through October 3
Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum in Carrabelle will present a special exhibit through October 3 on Operation Market Garden.
Operation Market Garden (September 17th – 27th, 1944) was the attempt to establish control of the bridge over the Rhine at Arnhem on the border of Germany and the Netherlands This exhibit presents the military commanders from both the Allied and the German forces, and presents information of the Horsa and Waco gliders, as well as the Douglas C47 Skytrain aircraft used to bring troops and equipment from England. The museum is open every Tuesday through Saturday from 11 am to 5 pm ET. There is no charge for admission, but donations are gladly accepted. Details.
