Deputy injured in one car accident

A 40-year-old Franklin County deputy sheriff received serious injuries Friday after a one vehicle crash east of Lanark Village. Anthony Sapp of Carrabelle, was responding to a call just after midnight Friday when his 2005 Dodge Durango went off the road and collided head on with a tree. The vehicle then went airborne before hitting a dirt embankment and coming to rest upside down in a culvert. Officer Sapp suffered some cuts and bruises and maybe a fractured collarbone from the accident but was released from Tallahassee Memorial Hospital after treatment. Police say that Sapp was following a Carrabelle policeman to a call at St. Theresa but had to swerve to avoid the other police car after it slowed down to respond to another call in Carrabelle. The Highway patrol says officer Sapp was wearing his seatbelt and no charges are pending. Damage to the vehicle was estimated by at $8,000.
