Tuesday is the last day to buy new oyster harvesting license
Tuesday is the last day for local oyster harvesters to renew their oyster harvesting licenses before the price jumps to 500 dollars. Licenses can be purchased at the Apalachicola Shellfish Center at Scipio Creek in Apalachicola for 100 dollars, but in order to get the lower price you have to buy it before the end of the day on June the 30th. After tomorrow the price is 500 dollars. If you’re getting your first oyster harvesting license this year, there are no more scheduled dates for the mandatory educational seminar you have to watch before you can get your first license – so you will have to discuss scheduling a showing with the workers at the shellfish lab. The Shellfish center is open from 8 till 5 today and tomorrow. As of Friday the lab had issued about 850 licenses to harvest oysters – they usually sell over 1100 so don’t be surprised if there are some long lines at the shellfish lab today and tomorrow.
