Franklin County now two weeks without swimming advisory
Franklin County has now gone two weeks with no swimming advisories. The health Department released water quality results late last week – but said that there were no bacteria found in water samples taken from local beaches on Monday, July the 13th. Health officials test the waters at 6 popular swimming areas every week looking for bacteria that indicates whether human or animal waste is in the water that could pose a hazard to swimmers. That includes 4 sites on St. George Island, as well as Carrabelle beach and Alligator Point. There was a swimming advisory issued Mash’s Island in Wakulla County though water samples were clean at Shell Point. There were no advisories issued for Gulf County last week – though moderate levels of the enterococcus bacteria were found at St. Joe Bay Monument Beach. New water samples were taken yesterday from beaches in the three counties – results from those should be released by Thursday or Friday of this week.
