Mosconis honored for community and military service

Apalachicola businessman and Vietnam Veteran Jimmy Mosconis was recognized Wednesday for the work he did to bring the three servicemen statue to Franklin County. Mosconis was honored at a special ceremony at Veteran’s Park in Apalachicola in front of about 60 people. The ceremony was attended by a number of political and military figures including Congressman Allen Boyd, former Tallahassee Mayor Scott Maddox, The Administrative Assistant to the Secretary of the Army JB Hudson and Lt. Gen. Lawrence Snowden. Mosconis was given an M-1 Maran rifle as well as a plaque through the Civilian Marksmanship Program which promotes firearms safety and marksmanship training for U.S. citizens. Congressman Allen Boyd Presented the rifle to Mister Mosconis calling him a “great American.” Boyd said Mosconis should be honored for what he’s done in this community and while in uniform. Jimmy Mosconis said he was proud to receive the award but pointed out he was only one of many people who worked to bring the three servicemen statue to Apalachicola calling himself a “sergeant in the platoon.”
