Franklin County unemployment unchanged in August, in Gulf county it tops 9 percent
Franklin County’s unemployment rate stayed stable between July and August at 7.1 percent. 340 people were looking for work in Franklin County last month, about 6 fewer than the month before. Only five counties had unemployment rates lower than Franklin County’s. The average unemployment rate in Florida was 10.9 percent in August. 39 of Florida’s 67 counties have unemployment rates above 10 percent. Gulf County saw its unemployment rise last month above 9 percent. 588 people were jobless there in August up from 552 in July. The unemployment rate rose from 8.6 percent to 9.1 percent. In Wakulla County unemployment fell slightly from 7.4 percent to 7.2 percent; Liberty County continues to have the lowest unemployment rate in Florida at 5.6 percent.
