Franklin County well represented in "Best of Florida" survey
Florida Monthly magazine has released its best of Florida issue for 2009 and Franklin County has a lot to be proud of. The Florida Monthly Best of Florida Awards are chosen annually by the magazine’s readers. The categories range from the best pub, which by the way is McGuire’s Irish Pub in Pensacola & Destin – to the best place to buy a lottery ticket, which is Publix Grocery store for the 11th year in a row. If you’re looking for the best outdoor café’ in Florida you don’t have to go any further than the Blue Parrot Oceanfront café on St. George Island. If you are looking for the best beach in the state, check out the beach at the St. George Island State Park, The Coombs House Inn in Apalachicola was chosen the best Bed and Breakfast, and the Cape St. George lighthouse was voted the Best historic landmark and the best looking lighthouse. St. George Island also made the list as the best place to bring your dogs and Apalachicola was voted the friendliest small town. And in case you’re curious – Florida Monthly magazine readers say the best hot dogs are at Mel’s hot dogs in Tampa, the best margaritas are from Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville Café’ and the best place for Key Lime Pie is the Blonde Giraffe in Key West – which has held that title for the past seven years. You can see the full list for yourself on-line at floridamagazine.com.
