Local inmate stabbed to death; killer commits suicide

An inmate at the state prison in Carrabelle was stabbed to death Monday by his cell mate – the killer was found dead this afternoon of an apparent suicide. The Department of Corrections said 43 year old Nathanial Taylor was killed early Monday morning by his cell mate, 41 year old Christopher Lunz. The two were not in general population. The Florida Department of Corrections said Taylor was stabbed with a homemade weapon called a shank, though they did not release details on how the weapon was made or how the prisoner was able to get his hands on it. Lunz then grabbed a second prisoner and told officers he was holding him hostage. A Correctional officer captain was able to talk Lunz into releasing the second prisoner. The second prisoner was also stabbed though his injuries are not life threatening. Lunz was transported to Florida State Prison in Raiford on Monday. He was found dead in his cell on Tuesday afternoon, The Department of Corrections say it was a suicide. Nathaniel Taylor was serving time for coercive sex with a minor he was from Volusia County. Lunz was serving a life sentence for first degree murder – he was from Pinellas County.
