2nd Annual Forgotten Coast Black bear Festival Saturday in Carrabelle

The 2nd annual Forgotten Coast Black bear festival will be held on Saturday in Carrabelle. The festival was started to draw attention to the Black bear population in North Florida and to educate residents about bear activity and how best to live in bear habitat. The black bear festival will include a number of events for the entire family including a Procession of the Species Parade at 1 PM. About 25 children, from second grade through middle school, will take part in the parade wearing homemade papier-mâché masks, which depict the faces of black bears, alligators, foxes, raccoons, frogs, turtles and more. There also will be live music provided by the Shade Tree Band, Rick Ott and Steve Hodges. There will also be presentations by bear experts, a family activity pavilion and a variety of vendors and exhibits and free T-shirts for the first 100 people. The event starts at 9 AM and you should try to get there early to reserve your spot for trips into Tate’s Hell State Forest. The 2nd annual Forgotten Coast Black Bear Festival is being held at the Carrabelle City Complex at 1001 Grey Avenue in Carrabelle.
