Franklin County begins clearing waterfront lot

Franklin County has begun clearing a waterfront lot in Eastpoint that will soon provide some additional docking space for boaters and oystermen. The property on Patton Street, which was once home to Allen Brothers Seafood, was purchased by the county is September for 280 thousand dollars. The site contains a number of docks and a decrepit building and about 150 feet of waterfront. The county this week began demolishing the building and hauling off debris from the site. Once the land is clear the county plans to rebuild the docks to provide an offloading site for local seafood workers and to give people a place to tie up away from the county boat ramp. They also hope to build a pavilion on the site and use the rest of the land for parking.
