Franklin County commissioners hope that they can lure another electric company into the county next year. The board has made contact with Talquin Electric which serves portions of Leon and Wakulla County – they hope that by bringing another electric company to Franklin County they can lower people’s electric bills. The commission has also expressed concerns about Progress Energy in recent months because of rate increases and the removal of Progress energy offices from the county. Talquin Electric currently has an agreement with Progress Energy that keeps them from expanding services to Franklin County, but that agreement ends next October. It will take approval from The Florida Public Service Commission to allow Talquin Electric to expand services here, so county commissioners have agreed to make the request now. The board voted last week to petition the Public Service Commission for a change in the territorial agreements between the two utilities. Commissioners currently have their attorney working on the petition.
