Franklin County Planning and Zoning board loses long time member

Franklin County’s planning and zoning board will soon be looking for a new member. Long time member Gail Dodd resigned from the board this week. Miss Dodd served on the P and Z since 1993 – she was the longest serving member of the 9 member board. She filled an at large seat. Miss Dodd said she feels its time to make room for other people in the community to volunteer their time. People who might be interested in serving on the Planning and Zoning board should give it careful consideration. The board usually only meets once a month but the preparation for those meetings can be very time consuming and the meetings can get contentious. Many people who have volunteered in the past have left the board quickly after discovering how much work is involved. There is also no pay or benefits for people on the board. On the other hand, the board does deal with important issues that shape development and zoning in the county. If you do have an interest in serving on the county Planning and Zoning Board, contact the planning and Zoning office in Apalachicola at 653-9783.
