ATTEMPTED ATM ROBBERY IN WAKULLA COOUNTY
CRAWFORDVILLE, FL, OCTOBER 08, 2009:
Sheriff David F. Harvey releases information on an Attempted ATM Robbery where shots were fired:
On October 08, 2009, at approximately 0305 hours in the morning, at the intersection of Springcreek Highway and U.S.98, two male subjects pull into the Stop and Save Store, drive through and then back up into the parking lot, towards the front window of the store. One male subject exits the passenger side of the vehicle and produces an object. The male subject takes the object and smashes the front window of the store. The subject then grabs a chain out of the bed of the truck and attaches it to the ATM, located inside the store. The male outside motions for the driver to pull forward and he pulls the ATM out of the store.
While on Security Checks in the area, Capt. Bill Poole observes the actions going on in the parking lot and drives into the parking lot. Capt. Poole confronts the subjects and the two male subjects abandon putting the ATM machine in the back of the truck and hop into the truck. Capt. Bill Poole is in front of the truck at this time and orders the two subjects to stop. The subjects aim the truck toward Capt. Poole and drive forward in an attempt to hit him after another order from Capt. Poole to stop. At this time, shots were fired at the truck in an attempt to keep it from hitting Capt. Poole. Capt. Poole escaped injury and along with other Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, pursues the subjects. Capt. Poole pursues the truck east on U.S. 98 into Leon County. The truck crashes on Natural Bridge Road in Leon County, Florida. There is a multi-jurisdictional Law Enforcement effort to find the suspects in the wooded area off of Natural Bridge Road at this time. It is unknown at this time if the subjects are armed in the wooded area. The multi-agency Law Enforcement Investigation is performing K-9 and Helicopter searches in the area.
