Franklin County Commission to discuss oysters and urgent care clinic on Tuesday

Oysters will once again be on the agenda at Tuesday’s Franklin County Commission meeting. The board is working on plans to stop a proposal by the FDA that would ban the sale of raw Gulf Coast oysters for 5 to 7 months a year. The commission held a special meeting on the issue last week where they agreed to seek an injunction against the FDA and they agreed to start working with other groups on political and public responses to the proposed oyster ban. Tomorrow the board will continue their discussions and could meet with Department of Agriculture representative David Heil to find out what the state of Florida plans to do to fight the proposed raw oyster ban. The board on Tuesday will also meet with representatives of the newly opened St. James and Health and Rehab Center to find out what type of services that group will provide to Franklin County. In the afternoon the board will interview two companies that are interested in designing and building the new urgent care clinic in Carrabelle. The two companies that are still in the running are Childers construction and Ajax Construction both from the Tallahassee area. The county commission meeting is open to the public so if you plan to attend it will begin at 9 tomorrow morning at the courthouse annex in Apalachicola.
