Franklin County hires Ajax Construction to build Carrabelle urgent care clinic

Franklin County Commissioners have agreed to hire Ajax Construction to design and build the new urgent care clinic in Carrabelle. Ajax was one of two companies interviewed on Tuesday for the project. The other was Childers construction – both of the companies are from the Tallahassee area. Both have experience in constructing medical facilities and both companies worked on the Gadsden County hospital renovation. The commission’s vote was split 3 to 2. The Weems Memorial Hospital advisory board had recommended Childers construction for the job, and commissioners Bevin Putnal and Chairman Smokey Parrish voted to accept that recommendation. The 5000 square foot Urgent Care clinic, which is expected to be complete next summer, will cost an estimated million dollars to construct – that money has already been raised through a one cent sales tax approved by voters last year. The new clinic will provide work space for two doctors and include 6 exam rooms, plus x-ray and lab services and urgent care for emergency cases.
