The Gulf Coast Workforce Board has been awarded a nearly half million dollar grant to help train people in the health care industry – and Weems Memorial hospital will be one of the sites to benefit from that. The program call “Healthcare Advancement Ladder Occupations” or HALO will provide training and supportive services for both those who are interested in taking their skills to the next level and those seeking employment in the medical services industry. Training will be concentrated in four healthcare areas - Nursing, Allied Health, Long Term Care, and Health Information Technology. Over the next year and a half, approximately 600 individuals will be trained and placed into employment in clinical and non clinical jobs through the HALO program. Bay Medical Center, Gulf Coast Medical Center, HealthSouth Emerald Coast Hospital, and Weems Memorial Hospital have all agreed to partner with the workforce board on this initiative. The workforce board has also had some preliminary discussion with Sacred Heart Hospital and hopes to include them in the program once their facility opens in Gulf County. Weems hospital CEO Chuck Colvert said the program will allow Weems to retain employees and advance them up the career ladder to higher paying jobs and provide better care to our patients.
