White House: No stance on oyster ban, but Gibbs likes them on the half shell

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said today he's unfamiliar with legislative efforts to block a Food and Drug Administration proposal to prohibit the consumption of raw oysters.

"I haven't the slightest idea," Gibbs said. "And I like raw oysters. But other than that, I'd have to figure out who to ask about that legislation."

CQ reported this week that Louisiana lawmakers have set up a meeting with FDA officials next week to discuss a proposal to ban the sale of raw oysters that have not been sterilized.
