The first annual Snowbird Day was held Tuesday on St. George Island and even though the day started out rainy – organizers say it ended very well. The event included a fishing tournament and a poker run as well as a bridge walk, Plantation tour, and lighthouse climb.
Because of the rain only three people took part in the fishing tournament but all three were declared winners and received fishing gear and gifts from local merchants.
More than 100 people took part in the Poker Run – it was declared a tie after two people came away with royal flushes. They both received baskets full of items contributed by local businesses.
In all about 200 snowbirds took part in some of the events during the day. The SGI Business Association says it now intends to make Snowbird Day an annual event.
