Swimming advisory issued for Carrabelle Beach

Franklin County had its first swimming advisory of the year last week. The advisory was issued for Carrabelle Beach. Health officials said they found high enough concentrations of the enterococcus bacteria in water samples taken from Carrabelle beach last Monday t require an advisory. Bacteria were also found in water samples at Alligator Point but not in high enough concentrations to require a swimming advisory.

The presence of those bacteria, however, indicates either human or animal waste in the water. The health department said samples taken from all other Franklin County beaches came back clean.

There were no bacteria found at either of the beaches tested weekly in Wakulla County. Gulf County water quality results have not yet been released for last week.

People who would like to check the water quality results for themselves can find a link to do so on the news page at oysterradio.com.
