Franklin County commissioners say proposed intersection improvements do not go far enough

Franklin county Commissioners are opposing improvements to the intersection of Island Drive and Highway 98 in Eastpoint because they say the work will not go far enough to make the intersection safer.

The Florida Department of Transportation is in the early stages of a project that will add left turn lanes on the eastbound and westbound lanes of Highway 98 as well as a left turn lane on Island Drive.

Construction on the 700 thousand dollar project is expected to begin next April.

The problem as the county sees it is that the project will not include a traffic light at the intersection which they feel will make conditions at the intersection less safe.

The intersection is likely the most congested in the county, and commissioners say they oppose and plan that does not include a traffic signal there.
