Franklin County unemployment up in June

Franklin County unemployment rose slightly in June ending four months of falling unemployment numbers.

Franklin County’s unemployment rose from 7.8 percent in May to 8 percent last month.

409 Franklin County residents were looking for work – that’s up from 398 the month before.

Even with the slightly higher unemployment rate, Franklin County still has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the state.

Only 5 Florida counties had an unemployment rate lower than ours.

47 of Florida’s 67 counties still have unemployment rates above 10 percent with the highest unemployment in the state in Hendry County at 16.1 percent.

Gulf County saw its unemployment rate jump above 10 percent again last month.

Gulf County saw 10.1 percent unemployment with 655 people looking for work there in June.

Wakulla County’s unemployment rose from 8 percent to 8.2 percent – over 1300 people were looking for work there.

Liberty County continued to have the lowest unemployment rate in Florida – though unemployment there also rose from 6.4 percent to 6.8 percent.
