Division of Forestry begins selling 3 day passes for off-road enthusiasts

The Division of Forestry is implementing a pilot project that could increase the number of people who use off-road vehicles in the Tate’s Hell State Forest.

Since 2005 nearly 150 miles of trails in the Tate’s Hell state forest have been open to "off-highway vehicles.

Until recently, however, off-road enthusiasts have had to purchase a 50 dollar annual permit to take part.

Under the pilot program the Division of Forestry will sell three day passes for only 10 dollars.

The passes will be available at the Carrabelle Office on Airport Road, at the Division of Forestry office in Tallahassee and at the self-serve iron ranger in the Off Highway Vehicle staging area on Gully Branch Road.

The Division of Forestry has also opened a new camp site for off-road enthusiasts in Tate’s Hell on County Line Road off Highway 67.

The new County Line OHV Campground is a primitive camping area with non-electric sites and a vaulted restroom centrally located to the three large campsites.

Fees are $8.00 per night per site.

The campground was funded through the T. Mark Schmidt OHV Safety and Recreation Program.
