Middle School students from Lydia Countryman's class, along with OSPREY program volunteers, teachers, ANERR staff, and Riverkeeper Staff, put the finishing touches on a large, multi-year effort to restore a LIVING SHORELINE along the waterfront at Indian Creek Park in Eastpoint. Over 5,000 marsh plants and grasses have been planted over the past two weeks in anticipation of stabilizing the shoreline from errosion, and creating diverse habitat for wildlife in the form of fish, fowl and invertebrate. Formerly, this site, which is adjacent to a public boat ramp, had been armored with concrete rip-rap and seawall. With any luck, this inviting new habitat may also see river otter, dolphin, manatee, or even a flounder-fishing mammal of the two-legged type. Please enjoy this little OSPREY video of our local young people, securing their future shorelines in a very GREEN and SUSTAINABLE way!
