Volunteers needed to plant spartina grass at Indian Creek Park

The Apalachicola Riverkeeper and the Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve are looking for volunteers to help them plant marsh grass at Indian Creek Park in Eastpoint later this week.

The two groups will plant about 2,800 square feet of shoreline habitat with 2,500 Spartina marsh plants.

Those plants will help rebuild the shoreline at Indian Creek Park and also act as a habitat for numerous marine species.

The marsh grass planting is the final phase of the Indian Creek Park Shoreline Restoration Project.

Planting will be done on Wednesday and Thursday mornings between 8:30 and 11:30 and late Wednesday afternoon between 4:00 and 6:30 PM.

Those times were chosen to coincide with low tide at the park.

On Wednesday morning science students from the Franklin County School will be helping.

If you would you would like to volunteer to help on Wednesday afternoon or Thursday morning, please contact Rosalyn Kilcollins at 653-8063.

If you are volunteering and have them, please bring a garden trowels and gardening gloves that can get wet.

Also wear close-toed shoes that can get wet.
