The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission just graduated its latest class of officers.
This was the 15th FWC law enforcement class – and a little different than usual.
Most FWC officers are hired upon selection and then paid a salary during the six-month academy.
These officers were not.
All of Wednesday's graduates were already law enforcement certified, so they only took the 8 week portion of the class to learn the unique information and skills needed to be an FWC officer.
The training included accuracy with firearms, wildlife identification, vessel operation, defensive tactics, all-terrain vehicle operation, BUI/DUI detection and a focus on state and federal wildlife and fisheries laws.
The 15 graduates are now heading out to work with field training officers for the next three months – one of the graduates, Ruel Raker, will train right here in Franklin County.
