The St. James-Lanark Village Volunteer Fire Department held a successful gumbo cook-off fundraiser on Saturday.
Earning numbers have not yet been released, but the crowd was steady through the day.
At least a few hundred people turned out to eat the gumbo that was for sale after the cooking competition.
6 groups signed up to cook gumbo this year – the winner was a four man team from the Eastpoint Volunteer Fire Department which included George Pruett, Jim Joyner, Junior Lolley and Richard Radford.
Last year the Eastpoint team came in second.
The St. George Island Volunteer Fire Department and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department also fielded cooking teams this year.
Besides winning the gumbo cook-off, the Eastpoint team also sold nearly 200 dollars worth of gumbo.
All of the money raised on Saturday helps fund the volunteer fire department in Lanark Village.
The St. George Island fire department will hold its chili cook-off and the Eastpoint fire department will hold its rib cook-off in March.
