A New Year's resolution idea from the Franklin County Humane Society

This year resolve to make a difference in the life of someone in need

Every year most of us make New Year’s Resolutions. They usually go
something like this: “I am going to lose weight and get into shape”, “I am
going to quit smoking” or “drinking” or both. “I am going to spend more
time with my family, more time at church and be a better person”.

These are all great resolutions but they are all about “the me”. What do I
need, how should I change, how can My situation be improved... Maybe
this year we should shift our focus from ourselves and resolve to help
someone else. We’d probably be more successful!

The Humane Society houses and cares for the homeless pets in our
community. We are lucky to have a community that supports our efforts and
understands our many needs. One need that we would like you all to resolve
to help us with is the need to find homes for our adult dogs and cats. We
have many young adult dogs and cats that are healthy, altered, vaccinated
and have been waiting more than long enough for their forever home.

There are so many positives about adopting an adult. You know how
big they’re going to get, you can see what kind of personalities and
temperaments they have and there is no animal in the world with a more
grateful heart than an adult animal that is rescued from a shelter.

There is no one reason why these particular animals have been overlooked.
There is nothing “wrong” with any of them. Maybe they aren’t the right
size, the right color, too young, too old, too “ordinary”. We don’t believe
in “ordinary” or “too” anything. There is the right home for each of our pets
if you will all resolve to help us find them.

Please come to the shelter and meet them. Participate in the “Adopt a Dog
for a Day” program. Foster one of them to socialize them and make them
more adoptable or adopt one yourself.

Please resolve to make this year the year you change a life, improve a life,
save a life.
