Representatives from the Florida Department of Agriculture will hold a workshop in Apalachicola on Monday to talk with members of the oyster industry about potential new rules designed
to protect consumers from vibrio vulnificus.
The workshop will be held at 4:00 p.m. at the Franklin County Courthouse Annex in Apalachicola.The workshop is being held to discuss the requirements of the National Shellfish Sanitation Program as it relates to Vibrio vulnificus.
Potential new requirements for warm weather oyster harvesting will be discussed and the state will be taking input from oyster harvesters and processors about the potential impacts of the rules.
The Apalachicola workshop is the last in a series of meetings held over the past week in Crawfordville, Cedar Key, Oak Hill, Ponte Vedra beach, Panama City and Milton.
