Set in Brooklyn, NY, in 1941, “Arsenic and Old Lace” is a comedy about two spinsters, Abby and Martha Brewster, and their family. These sisters enjoy taking on “boarders” of the right social and religious beliefs, whom they poison and bury in their basement. Other characters include delusional nephew Teddy, who believes he’s Teddy Roosevelt, another nephew Mortimer, a theatre critic who hopes to marry Elaine, the daughter of the local minister, a third nephew Jonathan, a murderous criminal who has undergone face-altering plastic surgery, the local police, and more. This comedy has been a hit since its first opening in 1941.
