FWC Division of Law Enforcement Weekly Activities Feb 18-24, 2011

FWC DIVISION OF LAW ENFORCEMENT
FIELD OPERATIONS
WEEKLY REPORT
February 18 - 24, 2011
 
This report represents some events the FWC handled over the past week; however, it does not include all actions taken by the Division of Law Enforcement.
 
NORTHWEST REGION
 
SANTA ROSA COUNTY
 
Officers Ben Pineda and Nick Barnard conducted a fisheries inspection while on water patrol in Santa Rosa Sound and determined a subject did not have a fishing license.  A warrants check also revealed he had seven active warrants.  The subject was taken into custody and transported to shore where he was delivered to a Santa Rosa County deputy.
 
OKALOOSA COUNTY
 
Officer Alan Kirchinger checked a hunting camp on a local hunting club and discovered a subject in possession of a cooler containing two quartered deer with no sex identification present.  An antlerless deer tag was not attached to the carcass as required although the subject had antlerless deer tags and stated both deer were antlerless.  The subject was cited for failing to tag an antlerless deer.
 
Officer Danny Arnette conducted a fisheries inspection after observing two subjects fishing on the Yellow River.  The inspection revealed undersize and bag limit violations of bass.  The subjects were cited for possession of undersized bass and were issued a written warning for over the daily bag limit of bass.
 
RESOURCE PROTECTION UNIT (RPU) WEEKLY ACTIVITIES
 
FRANKLIN COUNTY
 
Officers were on patrol when they observed a commercial fishing vessel.  They got close to the fishermen as they struck nylon nets that were tied together.  The officers conducted a vessel stop and fisheries inspection that resulted in the suspects being charged with fishing with nets tied and fishing more than 500 square feet of net in state waters.
 
GADSDEN COUNTY
 
Plain-clothes officers observed individuals on Lake Talquin catching speckled perch.  During their observation, they saw one individual catching bass.  After lengthy surveillance, the individuals started to leave and were stopped by the officers.  During the inspection, one suspect was found to be in possession of undersized bass.  The suspect was charged and the evidence was seized.
 
WAKULLA COUNTY
 
Plain-clothes officers received information from uniformed patrol that individuals were shooting protected species and leaving them to float near the head of the Ochlocknee River.  The officers responded and observed a boat working a light and firing multiple shots from the vessel.  A vessel stop found the occupants in possession of a .22 rifle and an alligator tail.  The suspects were charged and the evidence was seized.
