County commissioners have agreed to buy ipads for each commissioner so the county can go to a paperless meeting format.
The board agreed on Tuesday to spend about 7000 dollars to purchase the tablet computers as well a data plan needed to keep the machines connected to the internet.
The board feels the investment will save the county money over time especially in paper and toner costs.
Commissioner Pinki Jackel said that she had calculated that the purchase would pay for itself within about 18 months.
The move may also make it easier for the public to have access to county records since many of the reports the county currently has printed out will be converted to computer files where they can be sent out much more easily.
That may come in especially handy during this year’s budget negotiations so that everyone will have access to the budget books.
Commission Chairman said the county is “movin’ on up”; commissioner Bevin Putnal said he is happy with the purchase but he will require some training to use the machines.
