Franklin County’s two lighthouses will take part in Florida Lighthouse Day on Saturday, April 16th.
The Cape St. George Light on St. George Island will join forces with the Crooked River Lighthouse on Carrabelle Beach to bring family fun to residents and visitors in the area.
The Cape St. George Light will offer free climbing in the tower all day, allowing visitors to climb 92 wooden stairs and an eight-rung iron ladder into the lantern room to enjoy spectacular views of Apalachicola Bay and the Gulf of Mexico with no admission charge.
St. George Lighthouse Association will also grill chickens in Lighthouse Park, and there will be live music on the porch of the Lighthouse Keeper’s House during the day.
The Crooked River Lighthouse will open at noon and stay open until 9 p.m. for a Full Moon Night Climb.
Admission fees are $5 for adults and $3 for children.
Both lighthouses have museums with exhibits on the history of the lighthouses, and gift shops featuring lighthouse merchandise.
