The Franklin County Tourist Development Council has some big plans for 2011 and wants to make sure that local businesses get involved.
The TDC will continue a program it started last year with Visit Florida to create themed vacation packages that will be used in national promotions and giveaways.
The program provides national exposure to participating local hotels, restaurants and businesses that provide activities for tourists like charter boats and tour guides.
And the nice thing about the promotion is that it doesn’t cost the business any hard cash, just a donation of either lodging, meals or activities in return for the business name being displayed in national advertising and marketing materials.
Another TDC/Visit Florida project coming up in April is the “Kidsville Spring Fling” family vacation promotion in North Georgia.
That promotion will hopefully introduce Franklin County to Georgia residents through a Franklin County trivia contest, newspaper ads, web-based marketing, and even a Franklin County presence on the Gwinnet county school system website.
And right now the TDC is involved in the governor’s office national "Share a Little Sunshine" campaign.
Part of that campaign included Governor Scott visiting major cities across the U.S. to promote the state's tourism industry including Apalachicola Bay oysters.
