FWC cites commercial boat for fishing with unconstitutional nets

A commercial fishing boat was cited last week for fishing in the bay with illegal nets.

Fish and Wildlife officers report that they were out on patrol on the bay when they saw the commercial fishing vessel.

They got close enough to the boat to realize that the nylon nets the fishermen were using were tied together making the total size of the nets larger than 500 square feet.

In Florida it is unconstitutional to use nets larger than that.

The officers stopped the boat and conducted a fisheries inspection that resulted in the fishermen being charged with fishing with nets tied and fishing more than 500 square feet of net in state waters.
