TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Apalachicola National Forest is hosting its 5th Annual Kid’s Fishing Derby on Saturday, Apr. 30, 2011, from 8 a.m. to noon for children ages one to 16 years old. The event is free and open to the public.
The derby location is Buttermilk Pond off of State Road 12 in Liberty County, just southwest of Forest Road 130. Directional signs will be posted.
Children participating must be accompanied by an adult. Participants need to bring a fishing rod since poles to borrow will be limited. Bait will be provided. In addition to fishing, the day’s events include a casting contest and lunch. U.S. Forest Service personnel will be on hand to assist children with fishing as well.
The Forest Service is also looking for volunteers to assist with the event.
