Franklin County paid 1.8 million dollars for response to BP oil spill

Government agencies in Franklin County have received nearly 1.8 million dollars from BP because of last summer’s oil spill.

The money is to repay the groups that responded to the oil spill or helped with clean up and removal.

In most cases the payments were reimbursements for money the groups had already spent.

So far BP has paid out over 32 thousand dollars to the Apalachicola Riverkeeper Organization.

Nearly 80 thousand dollars went to the City of Apalachicola and nearly 1.7 million dollars was paid to the Franklin County Emergency Management Office which oversaw much of Franklin County’s response to the spill.

Gulf County has so far received nearly 300 thousand dollars – that money was spread between the Friends of the St. Joe Bay Preserves, the Gulf County Board of Commissioners and the Gulf County emergency management office.

Wakulla County has received just over 60 thousand dollars, shared between Wakulla County government and the Wakulla County Sheriff’s office.

If you would like to see the full list of payments made to Florida governments we have posted it on the news page at oysterradio.com.
